I am constantly reminded of the daunting challenges facing the people of the region but have seen first hand what a huge difference our support has made since the Kileva Foundation was formed. A new feeling of hope and optimism has emerged, and our dreams of creating a better future for their children, including building the new Kileva Eastfield school at Mwakoma and the new Kileva Medical Dispensary at Kirumbi have become a reality. Although the whole of the community are desperate to contribute in whatever way they can, their dreams will only come true if we also lend a helping hand. So please, take a few moments to look through the Kileva Gifts section; I personally guarantee that every single penny you spend will be used to make some dreams come true.

Mission
The Kileva Foundation is a charitable organisation working in the Coast Province of Kenya, primarily in the Sagalla communities near the town of Voi on the main Mombasa - Nairobi highway. Its mission is to provide support and encouragement to underprivileged children and their families. |

From the outset such support and encouragement has been provided to school children in some of the poorest villages of the area (places such as Kizumanzi, Kirumbi and Mlondo) where there is no mains water or power supply, and basic equipment such as paper, pens & pencils are in short supply. It is remarkable how much the donation of something small such as a book or a drink of juice means to these children.
However it was when we visited the remote village of Mwakoma that we realised just how much it would mean if we could help them to build a new school. It was an ambitious undertaking but work began as planned at the end of 2006, and by the summer of 2009 a pre-school, three classrooms and a toilet block of the new Kileva Eastfield Primary School have been completed. |

Medical Care |
Whilst the Sagalla landscape is stunningly beautiful, life there is hard, particularly given the lack of rainfall and difficult farming conditions. What little water is available is often contaminated, and so diseases such as typhoid and malaria are common.
From its inception back in 2006 the Kileva Foundation has therefore contributed to schemes that provide life giving water throughout the region. This has included feasibility studies for new bore holes to the installation of new water tanks.

However the fact remains that disease is a major concern, and thousands of people throughout the region currently have to walk over ten kilometers to get help.
In 2007 the Kileva Foundation therefore decided to embark on our second major project to build the Kileva Medical Dispensary and Community Centre near the village of Kirumbi. As of the summer of 2009 the first two rooms have been erected, and it is hoped that by autumn the centre will begin to play its part in local healthcare and community development. |
The school has provided a much needed boost to the whole community, and our hope is that we can continue the building programme so that as many children as possible can take advantage of it. |
Encouragement |
Although strong family and community bonds provide many children with much needed support, around 20% of them are orphans and many more have lost one parent. This means that additional support is desperately needed to provide them not only the basic necessities of life for today, but also the encouragement they need in education for tomorrow.
To that end the Foundation introduced the Kileva Awards Scheme to encourage children in their school work. Certificates, medals and shields have regularly been awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement in education and sport. . |
Encouraged by its success in education, the awards scheme was extended in 2008 to recognise the contribution of youth and other groups in other aspects of community development. This means that awards are also now being presented in categories such as healthcare, culture, environment and business development. |
